Note that none of these tools truly fix the problem we're trying to solve, but they address some aspects of what we're trying to do.

Harmony This already does a lot of the work that MMD needs.
Dapper.net These guys make screen scraping easy!
PictureSync is a closed source commercial application. It's specifically for annotating your images and uploading them to multiple services. It has a GUI interface and is easy to use. It only works on the Mac. In many ways this is very close to the type of application we will be building.
freebase This acts a bit like the database we'll need for MMD.
Flickr applications and tools:
- flickr backup is a user friendly tool for downloading your high res images from flickr to your machine. It's written in java. It has a nice GUI interface. It's open source and hosted by SourceForge.
- Flickr Down is a user friendly tool for downloading your flickr photos. It's written in ".NET 2.0". It has a nice GUI interface. It's not open source, but the author says he's willing to send the source on request. Author says that nearly all the work is done through the flickr API/library.
- Flickr Filesystem is a project for making it easy to upload, download, and search images through flickr. This tool is written in Python for the Linux platform. It's open source and hosted by SourceForge.
- Perl flickr download tool is a perl library to help people write programs to back up their images from flickr. It was written by Aaron Straup Cope who works for Yahoo .
- Downloading pictures from flickr is a set of scripts for downloading flickr images and creating local web galleries which look similar to flickr galleries. This is open source and written in Tcl.
- RDF + Flickr is a perl cpan module for flickr RDF.
- Flickr uploader Yahoo widget is a widget for uploading content to flickr.
- Flicker export is a tool for downloading and uploading content between flickr and iphoto on the mac. Older versions are open source. The newer versions are closed source.
